Trump’s new memo puts politics above an order from the Supreme Court. It cannot stand.

The Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights (CHIRLA) and the California Dream Network (CDN) on Tuesday blasted the Trump administration’s illegal move to refuse new DACA applications and renew existing ones for only one year. In carrying out his senseless vendetta against immigrants, he is defying the highest court of the land.

The Supreme Court, as well as Maryland U.S. District Judge Paul Brimm, ordered the President to immediately:

  • Accept new DACA applications
  • Approve advance parole applications
  • Continue to accept two-year DACA renewals

Anything short of this is lawlessness.

“With this memo, President Trump shows his disdain for our democratic process,” said Angelica Salas, CHIRLA executive director. “He hopes to hang on until the November elections when he believes he will get a pass to end DACA once and for all.

“Americans, Latinos, and young people in this country will not allow this to happen. We will not stand on the sidelines as this white supremacist, xenophobic runaway train of an administration casually violates orders from our highest court and tramples the rule of law.”

“Young people are coming together to fight this administration’s malicious disruption of immigrant lives and work together for a real path to citizenship for themselves and other undocumented immigrants,” said Rosa Barrientos, CHIRLA national campaigns coordinator.

“We are done with living in fear, we are done with staying in the shadows, and we are definitely done with this administration’s cruel games. We urge the Senate to pass H.R. 6, the Dream and Promise Act, to stop the antics of this mad pretend king.”
